Downward Paws has been over 10 years in the making.  Dr. Barrett started her veterinary practice, Island Veterinary Care, over a decade ago.  During this time, she has been treating pets in their own homes as a house call vet.   While running her practice, she has gotten to know her patients and clients very well.  

They have inspired her to write numerous articles about pet care. She has also tested countless pet products including dog toys for avid chewers and treat dispensers for hyperactive dogs. We only recommend products that we use for our own pets.  Education and client communication are the cornerstones that Island Veterinary Care was built upon. 

Dr. Barrett has been with her patients from new puppies until they had grey whiskers.  Seeing these life changes, she knows that each pet has unique needs that vary based on breed and age.  She is constantly trying to find the right solution for her patients that will enhance their quality of life while improving the bond between owners and their pets.  She understands that pets are an integral part of our lives.  They are our friends, our family, and our companions.  They change our lives for the better and we are always trying to do the same for them. This site is a combination of tips and products designed to enhance the lives of pets and their owners. 

While Dr. Barrett still sees patients daily, she now hopes Downward Paws will become a great resource for pet parents looking for sound advice and recommendations.
